Attorney Christopher Hudson has been retained to investigate and prosecute a civil action against the at-fault party in connection with an accident on November 14 involving a suspected DUI driver on Walton Way in Augusta, Georgia.

According to authorities, the at fault party, Keshia Hicks, has been charged with failure to maintain lane, Driving Under the Influence, and Driving under the Influence with a Passenger under 14 years old. The accident occurred after Ms. Hicks lost control of her vehicle and left the roadway, causing two individuals to be thrown from the vehicle. The vehicle then hit a mailbox and rolled over.

Mr. Hudson will be conducting a thorough investigation of the accident on behalf of his client, who was severely injured, and will seek compensatory and punitive damages. Punitive damages are awarded in civil cases when a plaintiff can show a willful disregard of the consequences of his or her actions. Hudson says, “If there were ever a proper case to award punitive damages, it is when a child is hurt on account of a selfish person who chose to get behind the wheel of a vehicle while intoxicated. In cases such as this, punitive damages supplement the criminal justice system to punish and deter the defendant from driving while intoxicated in the future.”

Chris Hudson has been practicing law for over 10 years and has handled numerous other DUI car accident cases. Last spring, Chris tried a case and received a punitive damage award in Columbia County, Georgia, in connection with a DUI driver.
